Canon has released a pair of new firmware updates for the Canon EOS R6 and the Canon EOS 1DX Mark III. And while the features they bring are not unexpected for a camera like the 1DX Mark III, they are a nice surprise for the EOS R6 which appears to be Canon announcing that the EOS R6 is classified as a professional camera. serious.

While both firmware updates contain fixes for their respective cases, both add two new features to both cameras. First of all, they have the ability to shoot videos in Canon Log 3, but now they are also both capable of shooting videos on two cards simultaneously, so you can do your backups as you go.

In addition to adding the new features, the v1.4 update for the EOS R6 fixes a number of user issues including HDMI connection issues as well as stabilization and general operation issues with long specific goals.

Firmware version 1.4.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:

  1. Add [Canon Log 3] at [Canon Log settings].
  2. Simultaneous video recording on card 1 and card 2 has been added.
  3. Improves operating stability when using the RF400mm F2.8 L IS USM and RF600mm F4 L IS USM.
  4. Fixes an issue in which, when connecting to HDMI, if the camera screen turns off, a zebra pattern is displayed through the HDMI output.
  5. Fixes an issue in which sufficient image stabilization effects may not be obtained immediately after starting shooting.

For the EOS 1DX Mark III, Canon appears to be laying the groundwork for future Cinema RAW developments that will come to Canon’s Digital Photo Professional camera and software. Likewise, you will get simultaneous recording to card, although you cannot shoot raw movies on both cards at the same time. Hopefully you can at least get some proxies on the second card.

Firmware version 1.5.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:

  1. Add [Canon Log 3] at [Canon Log settings].
    • Support for RAW movies shot with Canon Log 3 and RAW (Light) will be available in a future version of Cinema RAW Development and in Digital Photo Professional software.
    • Support for processing RAW movies shot with Canon Log 3 and Viewing LUT application will be available in a future version of Digital Photo Professional software.
  2. Simultaneous video recording to card 1 and card 2 has been added, but RAW videos and RAW (Light) videos cannot be recorded to card 1 and card 2 simultaneously.
  3. Support for the Video Performance Guarantee Profile (VPG 400), a standard based on the CFexpress 2.0 specification, has been added.
  4. Addresses an issue in which there are rare cases where the shooting settings for Still Photo mode are retained when a user enters Movie mode.
