Flashback: LG V40 ThinQ, the first penta-camera phone, aimed to improve the company’s fortunes

LG v40 is 1 of the best of the year. Very nice 👍 phone 👍
I use the G8X everyday for music and camera and overall it’s something no other phone can replace.
Take a Samsung/Apple/any phone 4 times more expensive and LG is still better.
Ai, 3 hours agoI don’t understand why the big screen is a problem for some people? And why it becomes a measure of c… more…when you have become a “brand loyal”, common sense and the need to get more for your money disappears!!!!!!!
Samsung and Apple brands are about to be recognized in a “higher social status”…when you buy their products, you are more “socially attractive”…
Smart buyers are not attracted to these fake lights!!!!!!
Ai, 3 hours agoI don’t understand why the big screen is a problem for some people? And why it becomes a measure of c… moreThe hole is worse than the notch. At least the notched androids had the ability to craft a fake scope.
LG had significantly more contributions than samsung and xiaomi.
Samsung copies it from others, advertises it as something new, and the media praises it.
I don’t understand why the big screen is a problem for some people? And why it becomes a measure of comparison.
Iphone has a huge notch design and people always buy them.
joe nodden, 4 hours agoThis would imply that the V30 was no better than the G5.the V30 had no problem in terms of technology…with the LG G5, otherwise LG bet on modular phones and was a big disaster…they never recovered from that!!!!!
Currently, I have been using the V40 for 3 years.
CopyX1982, 6 hours agoThe biggest problem here in the UK? Couldn’t buy LG phones unless you imported? … moreThe LG V60 has only been officially launched in certain markets, including: the United States, Canada, Taiwan and Japan.
You see, NOT EVEN SOUTH KOREA (their territory) is not included!
I still have my LG G5 and it works well as a media player. The speaker is excellent. But the battery life is atrocious and the GPS becomes glitchy. The software has also fallen behind after only a few years, despite being flawlessly smooth when I first got it. It’s that obsolete eMMC.
Snapdragon 845 is still a good chip that this V40 has. I’m using my Pixel 3 again which has the same chip and it’s smooth after 4 years. I decided to sell my Razr 5G but keep my Flip 3. I hate the 765G. Comparable to an 835, it stalls after a few days each time. Gets boring. Only flagship Snapdragons for me. Will wait for the Razr 3 with Snap 8 Gen 1.
507AMS, 4 hours agono, the LG G5 was the starting road towards its end!!!!! The V series was not really a problem… moreThis would imply that the V30 was no better than the G5.
Anonymous, 11 hours agoThe LG V30 was one of the best phones ever made. I guess it can still be used without problems today.I’m responding to your comment with my LG V30 right now and it’s still working perfectly since the day I bought it which was at launch. Ditto for my wife’s V30. Probably the best Android phone ever.
joe nodden, 5 hours agoThis trash was the beginning of the end. no, the LG G5 was the starting road towards its end!!!!!
The V-Series wasn’t much of an issue in terms of the technology involved. The problem with LG was poor marketing (“marketing to small target consumers” products not so well received) and poor support for software updates…
I loved every LG phone I owned (G3, G5, V20) but these products never caught the full attention of the public……
This trash was the beginning of the end.
And now we have a market saturated with Chinese phones with useless cameras and far too many models.
Anonymous, 8 hours agoNokia 6, 7 Plus and some others are made in conjunction with Foxcon, newer and newer phones… moreYes, many HMD phones are ODM.
7+ was created by the FIH.
All assembled at Foxconn.
I always kept my V40, V30, V20, G6 and G8… All these phones still work and are usable.. and the problem with the V40 is the battery life and probably that notch when its predecessor the V30 has a great design.
The last 3-5 years have seen a slight saturation in smartphone camera quality, mostly due to extremely minor hardware improvements and even more minor tweaks to computational photography algorithms.
While Snapdragon, Mediatek, and Exynos have allowed up to 18-bit RAW, on their latest ISPs and processors, that wouldn’t really help without some drastic improvements in sensor technology, not just increased and increased imaging through HDR. They should have created 14-bit smartphone image sensors with improvements in the Quad Pixel/Tetracell CFA. And even faster reading, and even more frame to work with.
The biggest problem here in the UK? Couldn’t buy LG phones unless you imported? I wanted the latest V series with the dual screen case, and would have looked at the one with the flip down second screen (forget the name) but you just couldn’t get them from a carrier like O2 here
Better than any xiaomi ever made.
