Franklin County Invites Photographers to Enter Photo Contest

Calling all amateur photographers: The Franklin County Commissioners invite you to showcase your talent and creativity through images that show what you love about the county, its people and its culture.

Entries submitted to the Franklin County Photo Contest will be used in a variety of mediums to tell the story of the county.

Photos can be submitted in the following categories:

  • Scenic/landscapes
  • Nature (plants, fauna, seasons)
  • Cities and Communities of Franklin County (Cityscapes, Architecture, Neighborhoods)
  • Agriculture (farms, barns, livestock, produce, orchards, farmers markets)
  • Parties and events
  • Business, industry and commerce
  • Religious and educational institutions (churches, schools, universities)
  • Food (restaurants, ice cream parlors, etc.)
  • Arts, culture, historic sites and local attractions
  • Recreation
  • Housing and real estate
  • Health care and personal services
  • Transport and infrastructure
  • Aerial/drone photography

A first prize will be awarded for each category. Prizes will also be awarded to a first, second and third place winner. Winners will be announced and recognized publicly through social media, press releases, county website, etc.

Only photos taken in Franklin County will be accepted, except for those taken in the Borough of Shippensburg, the University of Shippensburg campus, Cowans Gap State Park, and State Park of Caledonia and the Long Pine Reservoir. Some of these locations are only partially within the county or are immediately adjacent.

Photos must have been taken recently, no earlier than January 1, 2019.

The competition is only open to amateur photographers or photographers who earn less than 50% of their annual income from photography. Franklin County employees are also ineligible; however, they can submit images to the separate employee-only contest.
