MediaTek launches Helio G96 and Helio G88 chips focused on mobile photography
In 2020, MediaTek announced its Helio G95 chipset, claiming it comes with HyperEngine gaming technology. The company claimed that the Helio G95 is capable enough to optimize the processor, GPU and RAM. Now in the latest development, MediaTek has released the Helio G96 which is the successor to last year’s G95. At the same time, the company also announced the Helio G88 processor which extended the G-series chipset. It seems that both chipsets are focused on mobile photography and come with additional features for photography enthusiasts.

These new Helio G series chips are at the heart of incredible mobile experiences.
Features MediaTek Helio G96 and Helio G88
According to the company, the MediaTek Helio G96 is capable of supporting 120Hz refresh rate displays with resolution up to FHD +. The chipset supports AMOLED and LCD panel, there is no restriction in DDIC power supply, phy or D-phy interface. The newly launched chipset also features HyperEngine 2.0 Lite technology for better gaming experience.
From a specification standpoint, it offers dual ARM Cortex-A76 processors with support up to 2.05 GHz as well as LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage. As mentioned above, the chipset has been designed to focus more on photography and it supports up to 108 megapixel camera sensor for better photographic experience. On the connectivity side, it offers rapid integration of the Cat-13 4G LTE WorldMode modem, a 4G dual SIM with VoLTE and ViLTE services.
The MediaTek Helio G88, on the other hand, supports Full HD + display resolution with a refresh rate of 90Hz. It contains an octa-core with a dual ARM Cortex A-75 processor, paired with the Mali-G52 GPU. . The entry-level chipset comes with main camera support up to 647 megapixels as well as an engine for dual-camera bokeh clicks. The Helio G88 comes with a Camera Control Unit (CCU), Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS).
The company has yet to reveal the price and availability of the newly launched chipsets. There is no information on when smartphone brands will launch new devices with the new chipsets.
