Last year, many felt the absence of the Galaxy Note series when Samsung introduced optional S Pen accessories for its top Android phones. However, the company is teasing some sort of comeback during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked which is scheduled for February 2022. It is here that we can expect Samsung to launch the flagship Galaxy S22 series.

Samsung President and Head of MX Business Dr. TM Roh teases in a blog post some of the things we can expect from the launch. It begins by reminiscing on the legacy of the Galaxy Note series, which launched in 2011, starting the trend of ever-increasing screens.

“The S Pen also surprised everyone,” he wrote. “It allowed people to make the connection between creativity and productivity – whenever inspiration arose, they could quickly jot down their ideas and thoughts in Samsung Notes.”

He then goes on to sympathize with fans who were hoping for a Galaxy Note 20 successor last year, saying “we haven’t forgotten about those experiences you love.”

While being coy about the details, Roh says Samsung will showcase “the most outstanding S-series device” at Galaxy Unpacked in February. This new camera will include low-light photography while offering speed and power “not found elsewhere”. Roh also teases the AI improvements, referring to “the smartest Galaxy experience yet.”

Sounds like a pretty bold claim, though it could probably refer to the recently announced Exynos 2200 chipset, which is paired with an AMD RDNA 2-based Xclipse GPU. It also features a new dual-core NPU for mobile photography. improved, which could give it a leg up on its biggest rival chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Of course, with all the talk of the Galaxy Note and S series, we should expect the Galaxy S22 Ultra with S Pen to be announced as the successor to the Note series. Roh even signs off saying “get ready for the Ultra experience”, suggesting we’ll see the Note return in all but name.

That said, we’ve covered why it would make sense to merge the Galaxy Note and S series smartphones, and it looks like it’s finally set in stone.

For those of you who have already decided to pick up Samsung’s upcoming flagships, the company will open its Reserve Now deals on its website on Friday, January 21 at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT. Those who reserve the elusive new smartphones early will receive perks like $50 in Samsung credit to use when pre-ordering, as well as other offers when pre-orders open. In addition, they will be among the first to receive the new smartphones.

Samsung hasn’t specified which day Unpacked will take place, but rumors have it that it will take place in early February, possibly the 8th. Hopefully, we’ll learn more as the date approaches.
